Of all the political squabbles that surround us, the "birthers" movement is the saddest commentary on the United States of America. We all believe in free speech, but to continue to advance pure fiction in the name of truth is traitorous. That's right, all you birthers are traitors, idiots, imbeciles and morons. You don't have a point; you are just sick in the head and I'm getting tired of listening to your crap.
Barack Obama was born in Hawaii when it was a state. The newspaper announcement makes this issue perfectly clear as does his legitimate birth certificate. Even if Obama was born before Hawaii became a state; and this is not the case, Hawaii was a legitimate U.S. incorporated territory. Why is this so important? It is important because the Panama Canal Zone was only an unincorporated U.S. Territory until the "Torrijos-Carter Treaties of 1979".
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in (Downes v. Bidwell) in 1901 that unincorporated territories are not the United States. In 1905, in (Rasmussen v. United States) the courts ruled that the Constitution only applies to incorporated territories of the United States. Children born in the Panama Canal Zone were subject to the Naturalization Act of 1795, which granted statutory U.S. citizenship at birth. With the ruling of 1905 however, persons born in the Canal Zone only became U.S. nationals, not citizens.
Congress moved to correct the situation and passed a law in 1937 that grants citizenship to those individuals born in the Canal Zone after February 26, 1904 that had at least one U.S. citizen parent. I have found no reference as to whether or not the law passed in 1937 has ever been constitutionally challenged. Is John McCain a natural born citizen as our Constitution requires in order to hold the highest office in the land?
Why question Obama's credentials when McCain's are far more suspect? The only thing that truly bothers me in this discussion is that I remember the time when Senator Lowell Weicker of Connecticut was denied a chance to run for the Presidency because he was born in Paris, France. His parents, both U.S. citizens were living at the U.S. Embassy as his father was a U.S. diplomat. The mere location of Weicker's birth made him ineligible to run for President.
Well, I'm not tyring to make a case here because I don't want to be called a birther in my own right. Hell, then I would be the traitor, idiot, imbecile and moron. Personally, I feel that McCain had every right to be President and Lowell Weicker too. Weicker would have been a great President in my estimation. There can be no question about Obama's credentials for the job!
And to the "birthers" out there - get a life. That means you, Rush Limbaugh and Lou Dobbs.

Republican Radio Making Noise
You have to read today's front page story of the Providence Pamphlet (Providence Journal) regarding the feud at Rhode Island's premier radio talk station, WPRO (click here). It seems like even neo-conservative talk show folks just can't get along with each other, let alone define a vision for fixing things in this country.
If you read between the lines it is clear that John DePetro is not a team player. He's lucky he only got hit with a piece of paper in the eye. His little tantrum because Buddy Cianci asked one of his guests (Bruce Sundlun) to stay for his show (the show that followed) is truly "school yard". Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to ...... act like A-holes! Let's face it, the line up on WPRO is disturbingly full of hatred, bigotry, arrogance and ignorance. The only host that shows some level of normalcy is Buddy, but even he falters frequently.
Republican radio seems to be obsessed with making the news instead of talking about the news. When they talk about the news, they use no basis in fact a high percentage of the time and consequently, generate the controversy that they all crave. They are all looking for the headline and are jealous when somebody else steals their thunder. In the end though, its the lies that we are all left to ponder. Rush Limbaugh is the "biggest" example of the need to make the headlines. He will say anything to make the nightly news cycle and it is mostly lies and hatred that he continues to foster.
Additionally, the problem with radio talk is the current culture centered on Republican philosophy that has failed us miserably. OK, it is Republican radio after all so one would expect radio hosts to sing the Republican song. We hear radio hosts repeatedly beat listeners over the head with the "Obama deficits" that will cripple us for years to come. I agree with the need to solve deficits, but get your facts straight! Bush era practices have lead to the lion share of future deficits. If you don't believe me; click here.
Many Republicans are highly critical of Keith Olbermann because of his reporting the liberal side of the news. I can understand that. His special commentaries can be extremely hard hitting and rude. If you have never watched his show on MSNBC, you should. Keith does something that conservative pundits never seem to do. Keith always backs up his sentiments with a stream of facts that can make your head spin. He especially loves to turn things around on Republicans when they make some off-handed stupid comment for political posturing. Just yesterday, Newt Gingrich made the comment that he is not a "citizen of the world" like Obama, he's a "citizen of the United States". Keith shows up with a tape of Ronald Reagan saying; "I am a citizen of the world" and all of a sudden, Gingrich looks like a fool.
From Limbaugh to WPRO right here in little Rhode Island, Republican radio needs to be reformed. If the FCC won't do it, then I think progressive citizens need to start seeking out new ways to change the dialogue. We need to start complaining to the sponsors of what has now become a joke in America.
I have one suggestion for WPRO. Try firing DiPetro; hell, he's been fired many times before for his bigotry. Then install Tara Granahan in his morning post. When she filled in for him last Friday, I heard her handle some of John DiPetro's usual crowd. She stood up to them with style and grace. Unfortunately, Republican radio is not looking for style and grace; they are looking for headlines.

Dick Cheney Behind the Next Terrorist Attack?
That's right; Dick Cheney's story is as sturdy as a house of cards. You think that he would disappear into retirement and do his best to lay low. Not Dick Cheney! He claims to be speaking out because of love of country, but we all know that he's speaking out because of love of Dick Cheney. Let's not forget; this guy along with Bush ignored the pre-911 warnings and failed to keep America safe before.
I'm going to be 60 years old at my next birthday, and in my years on the planet, no American has been as dangerous to America as this pathetic draft dodging, gun totting, trigger loving mouthpiece of idiocy. Not even shooting a lawyer in the face can silence this embarrassment to democracy and free speech.
Hell, we all believe in free speech and that means even Cheney is entitled to have his say. He is not entitled to claim the high ground of freedom. He is not entitled to claim patriotism above and beyond any Democrat or Republican for that matter. Cheney is not entitled to be the consummate spokesperson for the Bush administration. Cheney is not entitled to shine the shoes of Colin Powell or Barack Obama. Cheney is not entitled to offer opinion on foreign policy as he screwed up everything he's touched. Cheney is not, nor ever has been a reliable source of information for the American people. Cheney is dangerous because he is exhibiting the signs of a sick man. Sick people can do horrible things in this world and this begs the question; why the hell is Dick Cheney laying the groundwork for another terrorist attack on the U.S.? Why the hell is Dick Cheney so adamant about what he sees as failures of the Obama administration?
Here's a conspiracy theory for you; if the U.S. gets attacked, Dick Cheney is behind it because he is really a sick man. Cheney is hoping and praying every night for another attack against this country because he seeks vindication. This sounds like a pretty good motive to commit a crime. Cheney and Limbaugh are both well known traitors to this country and they are both working towards the day when they can say; "I told you so". They both admit that they want Barack Obama to fail. While Limbaugh is all gas, Cheney may have more substance behind his hatred for Obama. How far will this ink blot on American history go to try and prove a point? Did he look the other way when faced with threats against this country prior to 911 in order to achieve a hidden agenda? Maybe!
Well, now I may be able to say; "I told you so". If there is another attack; Dick Cheney is behind it with a few of his rouge CIA friends. After all, what other justification could be behind Dick Cheney's game? Eric Holder; do your job and seek prosecution against this man that has betrayed his country through numerous illegal acts and continues to betray his country. If I were Dick Cheney, I would be praying that this country is never hit again; because if it ever is, there are going to be a lot of people pointing their finger at you!!

Global Warming is Real - Like it or Lump it!

Ever feel like taking Rush Limbaugh to the beach; bury him in the sand, (it would take a very large hole) and wait for the tide to come in. It probably won't take long for Limbaugh to be in over his bloated head. Global warming is real and I'm glad we have a President that accepts science instead of the rantings of a lunatic.
Each year I discuss this issue with my class because there are a few folks that get a lot of media attention who claim that scientists are just alarming us all. Well; I'm alarmed, and I'm also appalled by the ignorance of a Rush Limbaugh.
I like to show this chart to my class that is based on very solid science which outlines the level of CO2 in the atmosphere during the past 420,000 years. If Rush Limbaugh or anyone else wants to question the reality of global warming, I challenge them to prove to me that CO2 does not cause a greenhouse affect. What's incredible about the chart displayed is the level of growth in CO2 since the Industrial Revolution. You don't have to be a climate scientist to understand the connection.
Yes; the Earth goes through periods of warming and cooling. This is natural and we are in the portion of the cycle that leads to warming of the planet. Take a close look at the chart. Our last ice age was some 10,000 years ago and was part of a natural cycle of warming and cooling that occurs every 100,000 +/- years. Please note that historic levels of CO2 in the atmosphere never exceeded 300 ppmV until the last 100 years. Since the Industrial Revolution, our planet has coincided with the natural warming cycle but CO2 levels have spiked to unprecedented levels (380 ppmV). CO2 levels have far exceeded previous spikes during the past 420,000 years. If Mike Huckabee or Sarah Palin is listening, this is a little more than your 7,000 year old history of the planet.
This data is built on solid science and can't be refuted. If you want to try, let's hear it? We also know that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. If you want to dispute that, let's hear it? We know that greenhouse gasses trap heat on our planet; if you want to dispute it, let's hear it? If you want to dispute any of this argument, you need to watch "Extreme Ice", a PBS special on the melting ice around the world. If after watching this PBS special, you want to take Rush Limbaugh's side, let's hear it?
While some debate the reality of global warming; we continue to lose precious time, and Rush Limbaugh's gas continues to make this planet warmer and warmer.
Pay attention America; this is a serious problem.

Republicans Embrace Foolishness
I just googled, "CPAC and Limbaugh" and got the inevitable notice at the top of the page; "Did you mean: Crap and Limbaugh?" I kid you not. I guess they are interchangeable. You know what that means? More people are googling "Crap and Limbaugh", than the "CPAC" (Conservative Political Action Committee) version of the search.
A lot was made of Rush's comments the other day when he accused President Obama of bastardizing The Constitution. Many folks heard that he included the Declaration of Independence, or his bastardized version of that document within The Constitution. His words were: "Life, liberty, freedom and the pursuit of happiness." Sorry Rush; not in The Constitution. While attention was paid to this political gaff, I think political pundits missed the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
While accusing President Obama of destroying The Constitution, this is what Rush had to say: "So is it so strange about saying I want Barack Obama to fail if his mission is to reconstruct and reform this Nation so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation?" That's quite the accusation when you consider that The Constitution makes no mention of "capitalism" whatsoever(Click on the U.S. Constitution link on the left side of the blog if you want to read it for yourself).
Article 1: Section 8: outlines the government's power to collect taxes; ".....and provide for the common defense and welfare of the United States.........". It goes on to state: "To borrow money on the credit of the United States." This Article grants powers to make "rules" and "regulate" in many places. It also authorizes Congress "....to make all the laws...." There is no mention of a capitalist Nation in our founding documents. I'm not opposed to Capitalism, but it looks like our Founders were smart enough to know that rules and regulations would be necessary to create a Nation that could stand among Nations. If you want to talk Liberty; Rush, who the hell has been squashing American liberties during the past 8 years? Who has been bastardizing The Constitution?
The sad thing is that many Republicans are embracing all of this sick rhetoric. I guess you can't expect that much from a Party that listens to a Joe Wurzelbacher; AKA, "Joe the Plumber". Now there's a man that knows little beyond flushing a toilet.
I can only pursue my happiness when 99% of you Republicans stand up for our Constitution and realize the Rush Limbaugh's and Joe Wurzelbacher's are the frauds that hurt our Country.
